Papillon layers beautifully across a range of surfaces and can be used to create striking focal points or subtle gilded accents. The birdcages pair especially well with floral collections like Madeleine, allowing for elegant, mixed-style compositions. Whether applied to books, trays, décor pieces, or mixed-media artwork, this transfer adds a refined metallic touch that complements both vintage and modern projects.

If you are familiar with traditional IOD Transfers, they apply similarly but may take a bit more patience in areas of fine detail. Take your time and don’t press any harder than you usually would, as this can hinder the release rather than help.

Surfaces:

IOD Gilded transfers can be applied to many surfaces, depending on how they are prepared. For the best adhesion, we recommend sealing painted or porous surfaces with a satin or semi-gloss sealer and allowing it to dry thoroughly prior to applying your Gilded Transfer.

Sealing:

Once applied, we highly recommend sealing with two topcoats of a water based sealer. This will enhance the durability of your project. The final sheen can be toned (more or less shimmer) depending on which protective top coat you use.

Additional Helpful Tip from IOD:

To preserve the most shimmer, we have found that Modern Masters Metallic Paint Collection Master Clear in Satin seems to do a good job for maximum reflectiveness. In our tests, two coats works best to eliminate any streaking.
